Team Frugal: Michael Chabala
Being frugal is about more than being stingy with your money. It means being prudent, smart and economical with your finances and career decisions. Every Tuesday, we share profiles of athletes that exemplify what it means to be A Frugal Athlete.
Every athlete struggles with their transition into the next phase of their life. It doesn’t matter how long they’ve prepared for that moment, there is still a period where the adjustment will take some getting use to. Whether it’s getting use to your schedule or figuring out what skills you have that can translate, it’s tough for athletes to transition as well as everyone expects them too. For Michael Chabala he was able to use things he was already good at to build his own company.
Michael Chabala created Sphere, a soccer inspired fitness company that connects all sorts of people to push their personal boundaries. Many times athletes get into coaching, open a gym, or manage technical roles within their sport but Chabala used his experience in sport to create a whole new unique fitness concept.
Sometimes the best business ideas are already within your capabilities. You just have to act on them. For Chabala, he loved soccer, fitness, and connecting people. After doing his due diligence he went about creating something that combined all three.
Michael Chabala is a great example of what it means to be a frugal athlete. When you retire, sometimes it’s not about looking at what’s out there but what’s within. You have to trust that your talent just like on the field will help you find yourself outside in whatever capacity it may be.
