Team Frugal: More Than An Athlete

In light of the recent events surrounding Lebron James and Kevin Durant's Uber X Uninterrupted video collaboration, we thought it would be best to highlight the power and platform athletes have in this digital world, now more than ever. You should never confine yourself to just being an athlete. Being an athlete is temporary, but being a stand up individual lasts forever.  Only a select few individuals in sports truly get remembered forever and although everyone would like to aspire to that path, it's not feasible for a large percentage of professional athletes.

To be More Than An Athlete can mean a lot of things. I feel that being More Than An Athlete is a way in how you express yourself. Don't box yourself in just because you can kick a ball or catch a pass or run fast. Never be afraid to use your athletic ability to open doors for your other passions and wants. If you have other interests besides your sport, pursue them. If you want to continue your education while you are playing, do it.  If you feel like speaking out about certain injustices, don't be afraid to speak your mind.

You are an athlete, that's what got you to this point but don't forget that you are so much more. As a professional athlete you have more power than you think. Understanding your brand and making your money lasts as long as possible are two different ways you can ensure that you are  more than an athlete.

Lebron James' company Uninterrupted's mantra is "More Than An Athlete"  is an example of an athlete albeit his super star status showing you that you are a person first athlete second. Explore your curiosities and act on them. If Lebron James has the time to pursue other ventures and dreams, you can too!

Being a frugal athlete, isn't just about what you are doing with your money and how you can be more financially prudent. It's about making sure you are being efficient in your every move so that you have the means to do what you want not contingent on your athletic career. Athletics if your lucky at the professional level will last anywhere from 3-7 years depending on the sport. So it's important to come to terms with the fact, sports don't last forever. If you can live by the "More Than An Athlete" mantra, you will set yourself up for so much more in life that you couldn't of imagined.
