Team Frugal: Jason Fox
Being frugal is about more than being stingy with your money. It means being prudent, smart and economical with your finances and career decisions. Every Tuesday, we share profiles of athletes that exemplify what it means to be A Frugal Athlete.
For some reason tech is a big hit with professional athletes today. It’s only going to continue to get bigger and athletes are going to continue to be more involved. Whether it’s athletes being able to grasp the nuances of tech more than other sectors or just the sheer excitement it seems like professional athletes especially are influencing the market.
One athlete who is in charge of this is Jason Fox.
Jason Fox is retired after spending 6+ years in the NFL. He is the founder and CEO of EARBUDS which is a social music platform connection friends and music preferences.
Jason Fox credits his foresight in always preparing for what was next as why his transition into entrepreneurship has been seamless. In a recent Forbes article, he even states that he prepared for his post career by taking steps towards his MBA and serving as an understudy to his friends’ businesses.
What I take away most from this story was how Jason was able to turn his passion for music into a business because of his preparation and recognition.
He didn’t just blindly throw money into a record label or an app or new business venture. He did his homework, researched, and implemented a strong foundation.
It’s important as athletes because we are so use to seeing immediate results based on our hard work and skills. Off the field with business it works a little bit differently, which is a tough adjustment for most athletes. Which is why you see athletes throwing money around to compensate for a bad business decision.
Jason Fox has shown what it means to be a frugal athlete and his company is reaping the benefits.
